Donnchadh Murdock Wins Prize
Well done to Donnchadh Murdock whose poster has been selected to feature in the Council’s 2018 Schools’ Environmental Calendar. Donnchadh received his prize along with a framed copy of his poster on 14th November 2017 in the Council Offices.
"This year I entered Newry and Mourne District Councils Schools Environmental Calendar Competition. I had to design a poster with a message about saving our environment. I chose to draw a picture about reducing car pollution and how people should choose to cycle instead. My message was “Keep on Pedalling - No Cars".
When I found out that I had won, I was very excited. I could not believe that my picture had been chosen out of all the other children!
The prize for winning this competition was to have my picture in the 2018 Newry and Mourne District Council calendar, along with a framed copy of my poster and a voucher for Eason’s Book store.
On the day of prize giving I had to get out of school early and go with my mum to the Council Offices in Newry. I had never been there before. When we went in, we were told to go to the large Conference Room. All the children had a seat at the desks, with speakers and notepads.
The Lord Mayor of Newry, Ms Roisín Mulgrew, presented each of us with our awards. She called up each child according to the month they were to be in the calendar. I was the month of June. After the ceremony, all the children were called up to get a group picture (of all 12 months) for the front cover of the calendar. There were also pictures were for the local newspapers. It was great to see what all the other children had drawn and everyone was very happy to be a winner!"
